WB govt to getits own TV channel, says Mamata

Kolkata: After asking people not to watch certain channels, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the state would launch its owntelevision channel and newspaper. The Trinamool Congress chief said that the television channel and thenewspaper would publicise the activities and achievements of the government. "In one year, this government has far exceeded development promises it had made," said Mamata. She further said, "We arepublishing a booklet that will have all information about our achievements in the past one year." Reacting to the announcement by the West Bengal Chief Minister, the Left slammedher saying "she wants to compete with mainline media. She is making suchannouncements everyday". CPM leader Mohammad Salim said that while Mamata was not doing anything for the poor in the state, she was puttingthe money in coming up with a television channel. However, the Trinamool Congress was quick in backing the Chief Minister on the issue. Party leaderKakoli Ghosh Dastidar termed it a great idea. She said, "It is a great idea to launch its own TV channel and newspaper. Itis out duty to disseminatethe correct information to the people." ibnlive
